Comments Thread For: Kessler: Almost Had Froch Out, Too Tired To Finish Him

Former champion Mikkel Kessler told Sky Sports Ringside that he overtrained for his rematch with Carl Froch, and that caused him to get very tired during their super middleweight unification - which took place earlier this year at the 02 Arena in London. Kessler defeated Froch the first time around when they fought in Denmark in 2010.

"I trained with Cleverly, Groves, I had a guy from Sweden called (Erik) Skoglund over," he told Ringside. "I was training Monday, Wednesday and Friday and sparring. I think I had one of the best weeks of my career. I was moving, punching, everything. I was surprised, you know. I'm in the best shape ever! Nobody can beat me now it's impossible, so I had those three sparring rounds, good against Groves, good against Cleverly, first time I sparred them.

This article is really missing an important bit of information.

Kessler said that after the week where he felt amazing, he felt way too tired and could hardly finish a session with Cleverly.

What a shame, I believe him when he says it, but I did not notice anything on fightnight. He fought a brilliant fight against the Cobra, but that time around the Cobra wanted it more. When the Cobra wants something that bad, no way anybody stops him, of that I'm sure. He might have been wobbled, but I think theres a long way to say that he was close to getting KO'd.

Third fight in the making, what a perfect way to go for these champions.

Yup, same counter as in the first fight. Froch still fell for it :

            Fight 1

            Fight 2

Froch is not hard to hurt but finishing him is a different story, he recovers very quickly.

I can't believe a top level pro boxer would let right foot step forward after throwing the straight right. Froch is technically so flawed but recovers quick due to his insane pre fight cardio work. Not many fighters fitter than Froch.

Kessler can definitely come back if he wants to. And I would definitely like to see a 3rd fight. And I agree with Light Speed... Froch does keep making the same mistakes... he's just hard to beat in the 'relentless' category.

I don't think Froch is not that hard to hurt considering the number of punches he takes flush.

He has been hurt by a couple of opponents but he's been in back to back with the best out there so it's bound to happen in some fights.

I'm not really sure he recovers that quickly either it's just that he goes into war mode which puts his opponents on the backfoot. You never see Froch cover up and hope for the round to end.

Dunno why this is even 'news' he said this in the after fight interview.

They both had a chance for the KO, they both didn't take advantage
