"Whopping" and Floyd do not belong in the same sentence......what Pac did to DLH, Hatton and Cotto is what you call real ass-whoppings! Floyd barely sc****d a SD and technically one official judge saw DLH beat Floyd. I wouldn't call that a "whopping".

Frank, I don't think you know much about it. The points you mention are only part of sparring, and in Mexico, and especially with JC Chavez, and in that time period which was long before you came on board, there was nothing fancy or "learning" or "practicing' about Chavez's sparring. His BIG forte was his super body attack and he practiced it mainly on Castillo and didn't pull his punches. I've read stories by reporters who saw them, and the sparring was ferocious. Castillo even spoke about it giving it as the reason for his being able to survive and prosper after he became known on his own. Chavez had no use for a fragile sparring partner, he was the king and they got paid to suffer.Sparring isn't a fight. You work on things, and at times it gets intense, but sparring is not a fight. If I were to believe you or the writers, boxers would be totally worn out to the point that sparring is banned.
In sparring you can't get hit with some of the basic punches.
You work on slipping the jab, rolling, parrying, pressure, cutting off the ring, avoiding big right hands and left hooks and vice versa, Ropeadope etc...
You don't go in to wear down the champ or the sparring partner. Fighters often congratulate sparring partners after fights for pushing them.
He was completely unknown until he sc****d that decision against an unfit and disinterested Stevie Johnson. I saw that fight when it happened as I did the return. I followed Johnson, and had never heard of Castillo. That was when that stuff was written about him. He'd had over 40 fights and just about EVERY ONE had been in one-horse towns in Mexico. For the average fighter his career was already just about over.
I should have added that contrary to what you say, the basic punches are positively used in sparring, because they are the average fighter's bread-and butter. Without them being perfected and continually used, a boxer rarely can make any kind of successful career. I know that you can probably scratch around and find someone or other who managed without them, but I don't know anyone. Just remember, Tyson, 5'10" based his whole style and career on his left jab.. And he had a reach of ....what...about 70", in a period of giant athletic, agile heavyweightsComment

put aside the fanatic perspective here and let's be honest
Floyd is the Lb-4-Lb king. People expect him and want him to lose here & there, but Floyd manages to win. Give Floyd his due. Floyd is the man in the ring no doubt, he's the black mamba of boxing. But I also agree with Pac fans that Floyd is not on par with Pac of being the man outside the ring. Through adversity and trials Pac manages to keep a smile on his face and think positive about everything. Like his KO experienced with the second lb-4-lb king Juan Marquez, even though he lost, during this face-off with Brandon Rios, it's like he never lost at all. I admire Pac for that, and that's why I'm a big Pac-Man fan myself. But I will always like my boy FLoyd, because he's a magician in that ring. Untouchable. Hands down. I still want him to fight Pac though.Comment
