  • Comments Thread For: Fortuna Targets Yuriorkis Gamboa Showdown in Mexico

Adviser Sampson Lewkowicz has advised BoxingScene.com that super featherweight contender Javier Fortuna (22-0-1, 16KOs) is still very eager to get in the ring with Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-0, 16KOs). Earlier this month, Fortuna suffered a draw in his ten round fight against 2004 Cuban Olympian Luis Franco at the Buffalo Run Casino in Oklahoma.

Gamboa is looking to start a new chapter in his career - by fighting on a regular basis in Mexico. The Cuban boxer met with promoter Pepe Gomez of Cancun Boxing and the two of them plan to work together. Fortuna has no problem going to Mexico to fight Gamboa, but the contracted weight could become an issue. [Click Here To Read More]

Well technically Gamboa can duck this fight and not suffer the amount of criticism he did when he ducked Rios in his backyard of Miami.

Yeap true and Gamboa has said that he'd be willing to fight at 130 matter fact he never should have tried to fight steady at 135 is just a bad move. What idk is if this is the type of fight he said he would go down for....

Fortuna was lucky to draw with a second-tier Cuban. He still wants to tangle with Gamboa? Yuri may as well take the fight and finally bring the kid back to reality.

Total downgrade if Gamboa starts fighting in Mexico. Not fighting Rios then hanging around Floyd was bad moves for Gamboa. Fighting in mexico is the nail on the coffin on his skill and career.

I thought Fortuna lost his last fight on ESPN against the Cuban. Easy work for Gamboa IMO

Frankly, I'd love to see Yuri KO this upstart, but it's not good for Gamboa's career. He's getting older and should've been fighting bigger fights by now. Fortuna is the one making out on this deal. Yuri has nothing to gain, really.

be careful what you wish for....

gamboa's biggest problem has been inactivity, when he's sharp he looks great...

when he's rusty he looks really beatable....

                    but gamboa would whoop fortuna.
