Rios can punch, who else continuously stuns their opponents with jabs? Alvarado's knees buckled, almost got taken out because of the jab, Anthony Peterson got buckled too, Acosta got dropped. This was Rios who struggled to make '35 and still looked sick at 140. It's obvious that his power will more than carry up. He should have been at this weight a while ago and he's actually bigger than Manny. Rios weighed 160 pounds against Alvarado in the rematch, he put on 20 lbs.
Mayweather vs Matthysse at 140

It can, but it's not guaranteed. If it doesn't, Matthysse isn't a credible opponent for Mayweather because he relies on that power.
As an aside, you should play the ball not the man.Comment

if you take into consideration what current fighters do as far as percentage of weight that is cut down to make the divisional limit, if Floyd cut that same percentage as say, Matthysse (152 down to 140), Floyd is essentially a Junior Welterweight right now
he's one of the VERY FEW fighters in boxing that actually fights at or near his walking around weightComment

Matthysse has sparred with welterweights who have said he hits very hard, and Bradley said Lucas actually moved his fat ass with his punches, and also said he definitely punches harder than Provodnikov
I dunno how his power would translate beyond 147 but I'm damn sure he has power AT 147Comment

Lucas did a lot of things right in his fights against Devon Alexander (most certainly a robbery, without a doubt) and Judah, but he also was too tentative. And lets get one thing clear you ****ing haters, Lucas didn't fight the same Judah that Garcia did, he fought an active Judah who had come off IIRC 3 straight wins. Not only was Judah the favorite going into the fight with Matthysse, the bout was held on the east coast and you'd have a hard time convincing me that Judah wasn't bound to get a gift decision in that fight regardless of how the fight went, unless Lucas had stopped him cold. Why are you acting like weight classes don't matter? Could Sergio Martinez beat the best fighters of 168? I mean it's only 8lbs right? poor logic DR.
Matthysse is unproven at welter, we have no idea if his power (and main strength) will carry up. We know it's legit at 140.
On the fight at 140, I just think at some point Matthysse lands the punches he needs to over 12 rounds. Not the Matthysse that fought Zab or Alexander, but the more aggressive one that has KO'd his opponents since then.
Lucas sets up his offense so much better now than he did then, it's crazy when you compare his last 5 fights, on terms of pure technical boxing, to the Judah and Alexander fights. He's added so much to his game offensively it's frightening. I would pick Mayweather over him, just like I'd pick Mayweather over anybody at 140-147, on respect alone, not even looking at his ability which seals the deal. But Lucas is the one fighter at 140-147 who I think gives Floyd his toughest fight.
Watch Lucas versus Peterson, and then watch JLC vs Mayweather 1 and tell me you don't see striking similarities between Lucas style now and JLC's style in that fightComment
