Comments Thread For: Jhonny Gonzalez-Abner Mares: Post-Fight Report Card

    He never saw it coming.

Everyone else saw it for him.

There is always that moment of shock when a favored fighter goes down at the end of a genuine bomb. A brief freeze in time before shock turns to the thrill of a possible finish. Boxing fans know it when they see it, a fighter genuinely ready to go.

There is no other moment like it anywhere but combat sports. Team sports end when the clock runs out. Tennis ends when the requisite points are scored. Fight can end any time, and no one ever really knows when that will be.

Almost no one was picking Jhonny Gonzalez to resurrect his career, again, with a mammoth knockout. It was the sort of moment that makes this, inside its playing field, still the greatest sport of them all. [Click Here To Read More]

I jumped up about 5 feet in the air when Gonzalez landed that left hook

These post-fight report cards are ridiculous.

Quite ludicrous how Mare's defense can jump from a B to a D based on one fight.

If Mare's was a B, what the hell qualifies as an A, Juan Diaz?.

Dealing with quite a small sample to 'grade' from, LOL.

Basic summary: Mares got caught with a beautiful shot.

It was a D for this fight. His overall defense, career wise, hasn't been that bad. He doesn't get nailed with massive clean shots often and rolls well. No e of that Saturday.

True, but nonetheless B is very high.

Who do you have rated A, surely it's guys like Floyd, Hopkins and Ward only?.

Within the boxing environment to date, the ballroom days of Floyd, Hopkins and Ward are simply over...
