Mike Tyson : "I'm a vicious alcoholic and I've been lying about being sober"

"Former heavyweight boxing superstar Mike Tyson opened up about his sobriety and a 30-year beef with Teddy Atlas in an emotional press conference following his debut as a promoter on ESPN Friday Night Fights, according to FightNetwork.com.

Tyson brought up the personal struggles when reporters asked him about reconnecting with Atlas, his former trainer who now commentates for ESPN, at the Friday Night Fights event."

...Wow. It seemed like when he said that he was a vicious alcoholic it was truly the first time he'd admitted it to himself, publicly or privately. He was noticeable taken back by actually saying it.

He's only been sober for 6 days so far. A truly crushing revelation.

I'm not sure how the general public will react to this given Tyson's history of both violence and deceit, but I certainly hope he manages to kick his addiction.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on his alcoholism. I know that he drank and whored but not that he was addicted to alcohol. He was addicted to ******* and other drugs.

One error but being a "Bleacher report' it's expected of them to be inaccurate. Teddy Atlas was not his trainer. Atlas was a guy who liked to hang around gyms and boxing. He had 9 amateur fights in total of which he lost, I think, 5. He was very young and mostly carried around buckets and put a few amateur kids through some exercises.

The trouble between them was that Tyson, aged 15, began to make advances to a "female relative " of Teddy's (that's how it's always described and nobody knows what really occurred. Teddy was a real thug and had a gun which he put to Tyson's head and threatened to blow his brains out. D'Amato either was told by Tyson, or heard about it and kicked Teddy out. And Teddy has hated him ever since-I mean HATED him. He used to criticise Tyson unmercifully showing a really maniacal attitude. I don't think that Tyson felt anything bad towards him or even thought about him at all, even if he ever bothered to watch ESPN ......

Atlas was his trainer, not his main trainer but he helped Cus out and was learning himself. Saying he just carried the spit bucket is ******ed.

When I saw the thread title I thought this was just Bringer making a plea for help directly to Tyson.

Ain't nothing new... We all f.uck up... Idk y Tyson even cares about anyone outside his close family and friends... If I were him I would say f.uck everyone and stack my chips... I know he's a public figure, but its not like he can't stay in the public eye without revealing too much...

Atlas trained Tyson when he was young, as did many other people. The article doesn't say that Atlas was his main trainer, or his only trainer. The written introduction isn't even about Atlas - It's about Tyson coming clean about having lied to everybody who gave a **** about him for the past few years regarding his sobriety.

This is just another example of you being a nitpicking old prick.

I think he should convert to Christianity. it helped that guy out of Korn to become sober, and I know a lot of people close to me come out of all sorts of drug and mental issues through Christianity.

                wish him all the best.

If people stopped giving this clown attention and making excuses for him, maybe he'd get his lame ass act together.
