What would you guys think of a Golden Boy triple header featuring Leo Santa Cruz vs. Joseph Agbeko, Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Robinson Castellanos, and Abner Mares vs. Rafael Marquez?
Mares has to decide if he wants an immediate rematch with Gonzalez, and Rafael Marquez has a fight coming up on September 7th vs. Efrain Esquivias, so a lot of that scenario depends on what happens in the next couple of weeks. I think if Marquez looks great in a win against Esquivias, Golden Boy might sacrifice him to Santa Cruz, and if Marquez looks decent in a win against Esquivias then I think Golden Boy would use him as a tune-up fight for Mares while Johnny Gonzalez gets Robinson Castellanos (W.B.C. Featherweight Mandatory) out of the way, then do Mares vs. Gonzalez II. So a lot depends on the Marquez vs. Esquivias fight. If Marquez doesn't look good then I don't think they'll feed him to Santa Cruz because that would be taking a step back. I think the most likely opponent for Santa Cruz is Joseph Agbeko. And the fate of Jhonny Gonzalez is pretty much in the hands of Golden Boy for his next fight. Golden Boy could have him fight Robinson Castellanos and get that mandatory out of the way while Mares takes a tune-up, put him in a big fight against Gary Russell Jr., do a Daniel Ponce De Leon rematch, or go with the immediate Mares rematch.
