What makes no sense is why on his first promotion gig he does all of this ****. With anyone else it would have been a disaster but with him I think it gets more attention that way.

I think it's kind of a bad look for the promotional company which hooked up with him. Which prospective fighters are going to rush to hook up with a "vicious alcoholic"?

It's attention yes, but I don't think it's the right kind (kind of like the Golden Boy getting caught in fishnets).
