    Boxing - the "special" sport

Boxing. The greatest sport and most difficult in the world.

Were it not the case we wouldn't be on the forum.

Unfortunately it's fans are also unique.

Could you imagine the fans of basketball, grid iron, basketball or any world sport making claims that it's athletes from 40, 50, 70, 80, 100 years ago could not only compete but would even be better than the athletes of today or recent times?

What would happen to them. They would be laughed out of any forum so hard and publicly ridiculed for such outrageous opinions.

But not boxing fans. Only a decade ago the majority really did hold such views and even though today the tides are turning and the world is "waking up" to the truth, there is still an alarmingly large percentage of fans who really believe such rubbish against all evidence and common sense.

The reasons are varied. Nationalism? Money? Pride? Delusion? Brainwashing?

Imo there is far too much tolerance for the "old time nutbag" in professional boxing.

    Thoughts?

Yes i believe it is virtually impossible to compare guys from 80,90 years ago to the guys today,, just so much has changed,,,,

i always breakdown boxing into 3 eras

    old school- 1900-1960's

    tv era- 1960s-1990s

    ppv era- 1990's to present.....

of course some guys bleed into 2 eras like pernell and chavez were in tv era and ppv era, but other than that i find it nearly impossible to accurately judge say a guy from the 20's to a guy from the present.... and vice-versa

    just my 2 cents
