Comments Thread For: Barker Says His Hunger, Will To Win Got Him Through

Darren Barker admits his hunger for world title success helped him battle back from a knockdown to take the IBF middleweight belt from Daniel Geale.

Barker was awarded a split decision win over Geale in Atlantic City, but only after he had hauled himself off the canvas in the sixth round.

The Barnet man barely beat the count and grimly withstood another Geale attack before firing back bravely, with the referee watching on closely.

Barker took the fight to Geale in the next round and dug deep in the closing stages to secure victory on two of the judges' scorecards.

Going in, I wasn't overly impressed with Barker but his fighting heart and determination along with some pretty decent skills impressed me. I'm not sure how he would hold up to GGG's power though. If he can, he will get his 2 cents in. GGG will know he was in a fight if Barker can last a while in the fight. A better fight for him is Quillin who is one of my 5 favorite fighters. We need more characters like Quillin.

Ask Khan Or Ortiz; You Won't Last Long If You Can't Learn To Stay Off The Canvas!

I like Barker, and he should have beaten Sergio when he had the chance... but you can't get careless and get dropped by a body shot, not to mention any shot.... you can't have a great career finding yourself on the canvas.... You won't get off the canvas from Canelo or GGG if you get dropped.

Top man. Barker really deserves it.

I hope Hearn doesn't let him go to Germany.

Get Sturm on the road for once.

Was delighted when Barker got the decision, wanted him to win so bad after what he has been through and nearly quitting the sport.

Hopefully he has a good reign now.

Getting up from that body shot and ending the round stunning Geale was incredible.

That celebration after the decision was well-earned.

I saw an interview where he said it would be in London.
