Yup, you are right. I seem to remember how much respect the Brits showed Marvin Hagler after he stopped Alan Minter. The crowd respected Hagler so much that they all wanted to drink a beer with him after the fight. The problem was that they knew that wasn't possible so they decided that instead of drinking a beer with him that they would just throw their beers at Hagler. It got so out of hand that Hagler had to be escorted out of the arena before he was even introduced as the new middleweight champion of the world. It's not tiddlywinks or chess match, it's a fight. The people are gathered there to watch a fight.
What some people (mostly from across the Atlantic) can't comprehend is that there's nothing malicious intended about booing an anthem, it's part of the pantomime.
The crowd always pay respect after the fight is over and most of these fighters end up with more UK support than from anywhere else (just check their twitters).
Personally I wouldn't boo an anthem, at least not the US one, because I see on here how some people get their knickers in a twist about it.Comment

sure I meant England as far as I have observed personally, that's what I meant to say - I tend to limit what I say to personal observations and should have made that clear. I haven't travelled an awful lot so its just media input for me.
Yeah I am pretty sure many countries are horrible. The US does come across (in media) as having a pretty black and white family friendly approach to courtesy.Comment

I was gonna mention this atrocious act of racism and xenaphobia but you can't reason with a programmed robot. CPU will malfunctionYup, you are right. there were some undeniable problems in the 70s, especially in footie. Its not gone, but I don't think its anywhere near like that these days.Yup, you are right. I remember when Calzaghe got boooed up in Newcastle for picking another **** opponent who fell over fast, it was just booing and name calling, but it was very justified action. I believe Tocker Pudwill, the man the Geordies were supporting, was from your neck of the woods. SO its never clearcut which way things go.Last edited by DreamFighter; 08-18-2013, 06:23 PM.Comment

Well, I think its important to distinguish between pantomime booing, xenophobia (flag/country directed) and actual racism (Haglers skin colour), though they aren't always entirely mutually exclusive.
Sorry that happened, anyway. Its a serious one, but a one-off I hope, tad unfair to generalise a worst possible case to the entire nation.Last edited by DreamFighter; 08-18-2013, 06:23 PM.Comment

Its just the Brits Genetics!!!! You know all that "inbreeding" throughout the centuries of starting fights but never able to finish them..........alone!
I handled fighters in ever country in Europe through the 60s up till 1985 and the worse behaved fans were the Brits........by far!!! They acted as if they were the attraction instead of the fighters!!! I remember Mick Duff being embarassed and apologizing to a few reporters and a matchmaker I knew who was visiting the country!
Sorry but the way they treated Hagler was a joke, they always cry that it was just a few but thats BS the whole place got ugly and it stinks to this day! You need to have class before you loose it!!! Never went back and prefered Italy & Germany that offered more money and a much better overall package, along with splitting checks the right way!!! Sorry not all ofcourse but what I experienced, once was enough! RayComment

Dude, you're watching guys get paid to punch each other in the face while people drink beer and yell at them. If classlessness offends you, I suggest watching cricket.Who cares? Why don't you ask them? They are the most racist, xenophobic gene pool alive and history shows that. They struggle to realise that their empire is long gone, they are not superior to anybody - how dare they insult a whole nation through their loutish, yob like typical English behaviour.
No class.Comment
