Comments Thread For: Photos: Kiko Martinez's Career Soars With Romero TKO

Atlantic City, New Jersey - Former European champion Kiko Martinez (29-4, 21 KOs) has bounced back in a big way with an unexpected sixth round TKO of previously undefeated Jhonatan “Momo” Romero (23-1, 12 KOs) to capture the IBF super bantamweight championship. Martinez hurt Romero in the very first round and never stopped punching. After getting Romero in further trouble in the sixth round, he started unloading with both hands until the referee jumped in.

Kiko did awesome. He convinced me early on that he'd win the fight, because even when Romero was trying to box and move more, Kiko would always get him up against the ropes and start punishing him. After a while Romero looked super uncomfortable and even looked a couple times like he had lost all his will. Very entertaining while it lasted though.

What's really funny is that Carl Frampton will now be having two IBF eliminators to get a shot at a guy he KO'd in his last fight.

Man, the guy was relentless if nothing else. Doubt he gets past Rigo... that would be a train wreck for him. But he'd give Donut Air all he could handle and more probably.

Lampley was builing Romero up as toughguy that survived the streets and and getting shot . It goes to show that you can shoot guns and have 50 gang members, but you cant bring any of that into the ring !

I remember before the Judah fight, when they built Vernon Paris up as the terminator for surviving the streets of Detroit. Judah, of course, was not impressed ! And Judah pummeled him like a speed bag, LOL!

Romero was a punching bag when he was against the ropes.

Rigo was willing to go to Ireland to fight him.

If Frampton wants a title shot he can get one.
