  • Comments Thread For: Geale: I Thought I Won The Fight, I Want a Rematch

Australia's Daniel Geale lost the IBF middleweight boxing title to Englishman Darren Barker on a 12-round split points decision in Atlantic City. Geale came within a split second of winning the fight as Barker barely beat the count in the sixth after being dropped by a left hand body shot.

One judge scored the fight 114-113 to Geale, while the other two had Barker ahead 114-113 and 116-111.

Barker outworked Geale over the closing rounds, though Geale clearly won the 12th. Geale lost for just the second time in 31 professional fights. Geale is renowned for being dominant over the closing rounds, but it was Barker who finished the stronger apart from the last. Geale scored well with some right hands, but Barker was often able to land first. [Click Here To Read More]

I'd welcome a rematch personally, but because boxing is more about £££ than the actual sport, I expect Geale and Barker to both take an easy fight each before the rematch.

Sturm next, then a Geale rematch looks the most likely.

          Do it, another close fight.
Probably won't be in the states though

I'd be very surprised if Barker didn't go for a domestic fight next to build some home support.

Problem is is that Macklin and Murray are coming off defeats.

Maybe a fight against DeGale if they could agree on a weight. Would be a great way of garnering some interest domestically....

Good point regarding Macklin & Murray coming off defeats. So a rematch with Geale in London makes sense. A fight with Sturm should only be taken if Felix can be shoe horned out of Germany.

Must say, I found Sky's commentary overly pro Barker. At some points where Geale was doing better, they were saying "this is terrific stuff from Barker!!"

Still, Darren did enough and I'm pleased he won. Top bloke.

"We'll look for that fight with Sturm, but then, obviously, in the new year we'll sit down with [Geale promoter] Gary Shaw, who will be co-promoting with us moving forward, and we'll talk about a rematch with Daniel Geale
Looks like Gary Shaw got some options on Barker in order to make the fight.

Since Geale was ducking GGG (apparently) is Barker now ducking him if he doesn't fight him??
Tough match I think 116 was abit wide though.
