There is always the best version of any fighter. Speculation that some fighter might have been better has nothing to do with it.

and I am speculating that vitali carried one year of his prime into his early retirement, in the same way that we never saw Ali's prime (which we undoubtably didn't, 25-30 being prime years for HWs) when he was in exile.

If Ali had fought into those years he would have been better, and Vitali was also forced out in his prime when in hiding from middleweight chris byrd's injury inflicted upon him. I say he would have been good in 2005 as he was in 2004 if he hadn't had that injury, what do you think?

Ridiculous to say that was a prime Vitali that fought Chisora..

Prime Vitali was the one that got stopped by Lennox Lewis and a few years after that.

So Vitali's prime was when he was 34, retired, injured, while hiding from middleweight same as Ali's prime was when he was 25-30...

it is enough, seeing as you already agree with me that Vitali matured later than other HWs.

SO you agree with me, but are pretending to disagree. Like I said, stick to pics.

I think Muhammad Ali is in his prime right now.

chisora was the first time i remember seeing a marked decline in vitali. he had more trouble with the pressure, and didn't look like he was confident in his hands when he was throwing power.

he punched harder pre layoff, and looked quicker and less awkward. post layoff he was still as effective, though, changing his style a bit to work almost exclusively on the back foot.

i'd have to go through the tapes again, but my vote is the chisora fight, as it was the first time i watched him live and thought "he looks old."
