In his final week of preparation, former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez is putting together the finishing touches on his strategy to reclaim the featherweight title of the World Boxing Council (WBC) from the current titleholder Abner Mares. Their showdown is scheduled for the 24th of this month in Carson, California.

Gonzalez (54-8, 46 KOs), a former two-division world champion at bantamweight and featherweight, has several directions in mind. During camp, he worked hard on several strategies to take down Mares (26-0-1, 14 KOs).

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate form Mares fans but honestly I like to see him in a fight without some kind of BS.

Agbeko, Darchinyan and Moreno, all those fights were filled with low blows, kidney punches and the like. I don't mean a couple but dozens. the ref in each of those fights did absolutely nothing.

the PDL stoppage was a total joke.

Mares fight with Yhonny Perez was probably the last "clean" fight I've seen him in. I don't count Morel because that was just an appearance fight.

I'm not saying Mares isn't good, he showed that in the Perez fight but seriously the ref assistance in his fights needs to end.

Jhonny's big punch will keep in the bout but Mares, IMO, has 2 much 2 offer, technically, a strategic bout till they start 2 trade...
