Kevin Johnson: Chisora fight in September is 85% done

Kingpin Johnson- September fight with Chisora 85% done

Last night on ATG Radio, former world heavyweight title challenger Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson (29-3-1, 14KOs) told the gang that he expects to be very active and fight twice in seven weeks.

One of those fights is 85% completed as he hopes to be against fellow world title challenger Dereck Chisora’s opponent on the 21st of September in London.

Johnson is coming off of a 10th round knockout win over Australian heavyweight Solomon Haumono in April. Chisora knocked out previously unbeaten American Malik Scott last month in Great Britain.

Must admit I'd be slightly disappointed with Johnson as an opponent. If they were going with a US opponent I'd prefer to see Chisora fight one of the undefeated US heavies like Wilder or Jennings.

Would Wilder or Jennings travel at such short notice? Chisora is keeping busy and running through the Yanks one by one.

Beggars can't be choosers, Johnson's career is pretty much over and he's getting what money he can.

          Agree.

Props to Chisora for keeping busy, and whilst Johnson is by no means a top heavy, he's a solid name and took Vitali and Fury 12 rounds.

Considering the stage Chisora is at, it would be irrational to put him in with someone who would potentially inflict a very very damaging loss on his career.

Chisora wins a lopsided and pretty boring decision. Pity they didn't get a better opponent but I guess they want chisora to get a few wins in a row. big drop off in the standard of his opponents compared to a year or two back

More to do with the short notice than anything like that.

I believe the next fight was supposed to be Wilder, according to what they told Malik Scott and then Pulev but he signed to fight Thompson.

Kingpin Johnson is an awful opponent and the only reason he went 12 rounds with Vitali and Fury is because he didn't come to fight. He was there to survive. He didn't even let his hands go against Vitali. One of the worst performance I've seen from a big mouth and he was just as horrible against Fury.

Against Chisora he will do what he always does. Not even thinking about winning the fight just cover up and throw three jabs and continue to cover up and refuse to let his hands go.
