How did Deontay Wilder win bronze if he can't box?

Lets be real...
its plainly obvious to see that wilder is pretty much unstoppable in 4 rounds or underComment

That's perfect in pro boxing but amateur boxing is different. That crazy pointsystem that I can't really understand should be a horrible system for someone like Wilder to be successful.Amateur isn't the pro's, saying that I think you answered your own question. It's because he's big, strong and tall.
Also, the HW division is very weak outside of the bigger names. I think he hits hard but his boxing isn't very good and he looks awkward at times but that right hand is a hammer.
Let's see how he develops.Comment

The amateurs are nowhere near the skill level as the pros. That is why gold medalists need to develop and learn a year or two before they can move up and fight contenders.
But Wilder will never amount to much unless he learns to jab and box for ten rounds. Anyone remember Michael Grant? He was built like Wilder and rose through the ranks by out slugging fighters. Never developed his jab which is a must for tall fighters. When you get to a certain level you have to be able to set up you punches.Comment

LOL at the lowlifes in here regarding an olympic bronze medal as a mediocre accomplishment, more than any of you will ever do with your lives haha.
But to the point, he got to where he did because of his natural size athleticism and power, and awkwardness can sometimes be an advantage too. How far he goes just depends how he develops around these attributes.Comment

You people are so fucking ******, you're not even going to win a state or regional title type thing if you have "bizzarely poor boxing ability" let alone an olympic medal ffs. Criticism is one thing but outright disrespect towards the sport and what it takes to get to that level is just pathetic, why the fuyck do you guys even come to this forum if all you do is talk shit about fighters.Comment
