He received a lot of punishment against Viloria losing badly so it took him > 14 months to return to the ring (the longest time of inactivity in his career). And after that Segura continued looked really bad losing easily against Edgar Sosa in his last fight. I even think that this fight vs. Gonzales is a lose-lose situation since a victory against the local fighter probably woouldn't prove much while a defeat cleary means he should retire. Segura is practically at the end of his career being 31 years old.
We know Segura can take a pounding, we know he can cut a ring off, we know he's strong. We've seen him in some tough fights. Bomba is a quality fighter, but he isn't no Rigo. If Segura takes Bomba into deep waters, I'm not sure if Bomba has the ring iq to survive.
Abregu/Dulorme
Darchiniyan/Del Valle
Those spring to mind. I just think Bomba should have a few more fights before fighting aged veterans/former champs. Hell Canelo had 40+ fights and he was still fighting former champs who should be long retired like Shane Mosley and Baldomir. I'm not saying Bomba should fight 40 fights before a challenge, but at least a few more fights. THe dude has like what 13 pro fights?
I just think he's so promising as a fighter, would hate to see him shattered like Dulorme or Del Valle
