Comments Thread For: Rubio Hopes WBC Replaces Chavez With New Challenger

A few weeks ago the World Boxing Council ordered Marco Antonio "Veneno" Rubio and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to fight in a rematch for the WBC's interim-title at middleweight. The WBC's full champion, Sergio Martinez, is recovering from several injuries and won't fight again until early 2014. Rubio and his team are asking the WBC to replace Chavez as the co-challenger, because Julio is moving up super middleweight to fight Brian Vera on September 7 in Los Angeles. Chavez won a twelve round decision over Rubio in early 2012.

Why is JR still trying to fight at this weight, I think he's scared of people his own size.

Chavez needs to go to 168
he's too damn big for 160 and already got whooped by the champ
no reason for him to stick around at that division
thought a fight with him and Bika was being built up anyway
surely he'll be at SMW before the end of next yr

That Chavez vs Bika fight will not be happening for the time being as they are on different sides of the fence. Chavez is affiliated with HBO/Toprank/BobArum and Bika is on the Al Haymon side who is heavily affliated and exclusively works with Golden boy / Showtime.

Unless Al Haymon feeds Bika a few fringe contenders to make a few bucks, i don't see him lasting very long with that WBC belt against world class opponents , he looked very vulnerable against Periban, im suprised Groves went for Froch when he was very high in the WBC rankings and would have knicked that WBC belt imo.

Suliman would probably let Chavez fight for the WBC title at 160 and at 168 even if he came in at 172
