Comments Thread For: Team Montiel: The Offer For Jayson Velez Was Insulting

Featherweight contender Jayson Velez is seeking an opponent for a planned appearance on the undercard of Miguel Cotto’s return to the ring, which takes place October 5 in Orlando, Florida. Boxingscene’s Miguel Rivera reported earlier Tuesday afternoon that Fernando Montiel was sought as an opponent, but that the former three-division champ was disinterested in the fight.

“[M]y promoter is working on the opponent and I hope to have something official in the coming days,” Velez said, referencing Cotto as the featherweight fights for Miguel Cotto Promotions. “They were working on Fernando Montiel, but now we are looking for another opponent. It seems he did not want to fight.”

They aint giving Velez 3 times what he is going to win fighting on the Cotto-undercard, and velez aint going to mexico to get robbed and lose on his title opportunity and more important the exposure he is going to get fighting on HBO, rather than on televisa! No brainer!

Sorry Montiel people nice attemp at saving face, but aint gona happen!

Cotto promotions low balling Montiel but Cotto doesn't have a choice cuz hes broke

He turned down $10+ million in a Pacquiao rematch to fight Trout for $1 million and he lost

He needs to save every penny

That just goes to show that neither of them were getting paid that much if Montiel is still going to make good money while offering Velez three times what he would have made

They say that is what they're offering.

If Velez doesn't accept it then he doesn't want to fight.
