Comments Thread For: Nacho: Abner Mares Will Be Tough, But Not Invincible

Trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain is confident his Jhonny Gonzalez (54-8, 46KOs) will recover the featherweight world title of the World Boxing Council (WBC), when he faces champion Abner Mares (26-0-1, 14KOs)on August 24th in Carson, California. Nacho, the trainer of such fighters as Juan Manuel Marquez, says the underdog role is motivating Gonzalez even further as a fighter. Gonzalez was unseated when he lost a technical decision last year to Daniel Ponce De Leon, who Mares knocked out in May to capture the crown.

I am really looking forward to this fight and see Abner Mares winning a UD but Johnny is no joke. Nacho knows Mares very well so it will be interesting to see their game plan.

well Gonzalez pack a punch and is a very technical fighter, PDL hurt Mares a least on three separate occasions with punches he saw coming, I say Gonzalez knocks Mares out or viceversa, I don't see this fight going twelve rounds...

I will have to go with the guy who can mix it up and has the proven chin. Plus one of my favorites... Abner Mares.

This should be a great fight unless Gonzalez fights the way he did against Vazquez. That will get him stopped again!
