Comments Thread For: Melindo is a Class Act, Still Expected To Become Champ

There are times in the world of boxing that a loser in many ways turns out to be a winner in that while he may not get the judges’ decision in the ring, the manner in which he fought the good fight and the style with which he conducted himself outside the ring and the things he said after losing, make him a winner among the often discerning media and more importantly the fans.

ALA Promotions Milan Melindo has always impressed us not merely as a technically sound fighter with loads of courage but a disciplined, well-behaved, intelligent young man who conducts himself both inside and outside the ring with more than a touch of class.

Melindo fought the fight of his life against the tough Mexican WBO/WBA flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada at the plush Cotai Arena at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Macau and although he lost by a unanimous decision he fought gallantly against a great champion who had an advantage in height and reach and was – like he was when he won the titles from Brian Viloria – in superb physical condition.

Why they are giving excuses? He lost and that's it, Estrada is better than him.

Estrada is a better than everybody at the weight. I think a lot of these Phil prospects underwhelm on the big stage. IMO this guy overperformed, even if it wasn't really a close fight

Estrada came on strong at the end as always. Melindo is solid though. His speed forced Estrada to use different tactics to win the fight.

Also, Viloria didn't lose because he switched tactics. He lost because Estrada switched tactics and took the fight to the inside. Both Viloria and Melindo got schooled in the last five rounds.

You need a great gameplan to beat Estrada, especially since Gallo starts cold but ends progressively starts to throw more punches and ends up beating his opposition due to his superior conditioning.

Melindo did what he could but Estrada was superior. He was lucky not to get knocked out in the final rounds.

              Another classic Ronnie article.....

"We ourselves didn't contest the decision"

"We ourselves complained to the exuberant WBO president"

So which one is it Ronnie?

"In the end perhaps this, as well as a cut he suffered in the 7th round, turned the tide on Melindo, who up to the eight round was ahead on most peoples unofficial scorecards although the three judges saw it differently."

Not that it really matters because they're not official, but were did you get this information from? Or did you mean he was up on your and your Pinoy buddies score cards?

People do, anybody that follows those divisions knows that Estrada is the boss. But hardly anyone follows, at least in the US. So you get a lot of Ronnie getting worked up about some Phil flyweight. I think the moral of this one is Melindo did better than expected, and made them proud, so he's gonna boost him some and come out with excuses.

Melindo would have beat just about anyone at 112 that night, but estrada is just that good.

Also i cant believe that Japanese guy holds the legit title at 112
