Comments Thread For: Curtis Stevens Sends a Loud Message To Golovkin

By Francisco Salazar - With a lingering title fight against Gennady Golovkin hanging over his head, middleweight Curtis Stevens was far from a distracted fighter.

That was bad news for Saul Roman, who bore the brunt of a statement Stevens wanted to make, if he was making one.

Stevens scored a spectacular one-punch knockout over Roman at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. The bout headlined a “Fight Night” card, presented by Main Events.

Over three years ago, Stevens was pushing towards journeyman status after losing a 12 round unanimous decision to Jesse Brinkley. It is a far cry to now, as Stevens is being mentioned as a possible opponent to challenge Golovkin for his IBO/WBA titles in November.

Those rumors were further fueled after Golovkin stopped Matthew Macklin on June 29th, a fight where Stevens was ringside.

The hard-hitting Roman was believed to be capable of giving Stevens some rounds. There were some who thought Roman would catch Stevens looking past him.

However, Stevens showed early in the opening round that he was better technician and the harder puncher of the two. That was evident about midway through the round as Stevens dropped Roman with a counter left hook to the head. [Click Here To Read More]

Curtis Stevens is NOT ready yet. He needs more polishing and experience. He needs one or two more fights with some quality opponents.

Make it happen. GGG and him would be exciting. First time I seen Stevens but he reminds me of Kirkland.

the kind of power this kid stevens has could make him a vable opponent and he could change the way a fight is going by one punch. i would say his odds against golovakin are very good considering golovakin hasn't fought any big names but macklin who don't have the speedn and power of stevens.
