Comments Thread For: Miguel Vazquez-Ammeth Diaz Could Head To Panama

According to Panamanian promoter Rogelio Espino, Ammeth Diaz (32-11, 23 KOs) may get the homefield advantage in his rematch with IBF lightweight champion Miguel "Puppet" Vazquez (33-3, 13 KOs) on the 28th in September. The fight appeared to be heading to the champion's backyard of Mexico, but Espino says Vazquez's handlers are willing to consider Panama - if the money makes sense. So Diaz will be paid 12k for a world title fight. On a related note, IBF flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane will also make 12k for his mandatory defense against Silvio Olteanu, who will make only 1.8k.

I know boxers can make great money, but in which other mainstream sports do athletes make that little money for major competitions, apart from sports that pay only for placing in certain positions?
