Yes you are right, both could ****,,, i just always thought cotto was better at welter,, both judah and shane landed bombs on him and he was never down unlike the torres and corley fights,,,,

I just felt cutting down to 140 weakened his punch resistance,,,,,

but all your points are valid,,, no argument from me

Well Zab was hurting him til those low blows started.

Some dont think he even beat Shane.

Aannnnddd lets not forget Clottey. Going life and death with a guy who throws no punches is not a good look to some.

Anyway, Cotto always has been like a low tier elite level fighter. Love him and all and that Marg fight did seem to take his youth from him. Since that fight he has zero recuperative ability.

His prime was the first 5 rounds of the Margarito fight. The second half of that fight ruined him.

in the words of Apollo creed-ding ding....

I agree with this sentiment...I only asked this for this reason...and someone please remind me...did cotto win a vacant title before he fought clottey?

I don't remember...point is, Manny's best win ever IMO, including morales and barerra....cotto was Manny's toughest opponent ever except Jmm...but, the ww champion was shane mosley who Manny turned down...yet, Floyd gets bashed for fighting him in 2010 only after Manny turned Floyd down after beating cotto...we do have so many pointless championship belts in boxing today, but Manny gets so much praise for being 8 time world champion in 8 different weight classes....he could have beaten the undisputed champion in Shane mosley back in 2009...

Floyd beat Shane for his 7th title or 8th but refused to pay sanctioning fees.....no catch weight title wins for Floyd....he's going for his 1st catchweight title win, but it,s really a defense coz Floyd is the real champion, not canelo.....floyd beat the champ, then trout beat the former champ for the same title? Wtf is up with these sanctioning organizations....now we have a regular champion I'm canelo and super champion in Floyd...both WBA...lol...

I'm 5000% convinced Margarito used special wraps in his 1st fight vs Cotto. Bleeding knuckles and hardening punches as the fight went on? Dead giveaway.

prime until he moved to 154

people put too much stock in loses, cotto was still young when he lost to margarito, it was no worse than pacquiao's loss to morales
or barrera's loss to junior jones

cotto has always had trouble with just about everyone, why most of his fights are so exciting, he gets hit, gets wobbled

The best Cotto you'll ever see fought Alfonso Gomez. A decent, top 10 WW that Cotto absolutely toyed with and dominated. His confidence was sky high and his physical tools were hitting on all cylinders. Was a thing of beauty to watch.
