Friday before the ODH v BHop fight I ran into floyd with my cousins. Started up a conversation, took some pics. He eventually said he would be fighting Gatti. SUnday after the fight I fly home and I'm sitting next to Gatti (rip). We shoot the **** and he mentions that the plan was to fight floyd.

It took from that their managers/promoters/teams had a long range plan of getting them in the ring together.

As for floyd being past prime-I think everyone realizes that but he still appears to have a lot left.

It's possible because the fighters at 147 and below not named Pacquiao or Marquez aren't very good.

Apparently everyone else but Mayweather. Of all the reasons they use to hate him that's by far the worst.

Floyd is in good nick still for a few very simple reasons. He's only had 44 fights, he's a brilliant defensive fighter, for the last ten years nearly he hasnt fought very often(probably to cycle off) and when he has he has chosen the path of least resistance and managed to avoid people when they were threatening. Mosley was done...way past done, Marquez had only just started at lw when he went up as a chubster and fought floyd at ww, Ortiz and Guerrero were just piss poor, and Cotto had already had the stuffing beaten out of him recently by Marg and Manny.

He has managed his career magnificently, stayed safe, got rich and apart from beating his ex up in front of his kids, lived his life right i.e no drugs or booze etc. Thats why he is still not far off his prime all the way around.

Not one fighter I know takes a fight knowing or thinking they will lose.

But every fighter takes fights their promoters matchmakers say are good fights to take.

With all due respect, what you are trying to get at is why floyd is favored in every fight he's in. The answer is because he is a great fighter who is viewed as the best p4p boxer in the world.

The fights where floyd likely wont be favored are all against fighters in heavier weight classes.

Wlad is favored in every fight he's in because he is vastly superior to his opponents. DOes that mean he only takes fights he can win?

Floyd is no longer in his physical prime. He has to train harder and longer to stay at his best. But he is still mentally strong (high IQ) and dedicated. He always stays in great shape which has helped slow his regression. His reflexes and speed have dropped some but they're still sharp. Floyd's success at this age is a testament to learning the fundamentals at an early age and full dedication to the sport. Much like Hopkins and Wladimir, Floyd can win fights at an age where others couldn't even compete anymore.

                  truely the greatest.
He's not in his prime anymore, I think he's benefited greatly from the layoffs and retirements which has him looking fresher than any 36 yearold boxer I have ever seen.
