Comments Thread For: Ricky Burns is Prepared To Brawl or Box With Beltran

Ricky Burns has warned Raymundo Beltran that he’s going to be at his very best when he defends his WBO World lightweight title at the SECC in Glasgow on September 7, live on Sky Sports.

Beltran is Burns’ fourth defence of his crown and after surviving a stern test against Jose Gonzalez in May, the 31 year old is planning to put on a World class performance to prove the doubters wrong.

“I've watched the fight back a few times, I saw that I was trying to force the pace and I was getting caught with ****** punches that I shouldn't have been taking,” said Burns. “For this training camp we've gone back to basics and although I'm prepared to get into a brawl against Beltran if I need to, I'm going to try to stick to my boxing skills. Preparation has been going great and with five weeks to go I cannot wait to get in there.”

Beltran is a very live underdog in this one.

Should be a good fight. I think Burns might fight Crolla on the Froch-Groves undercard if he wins.

I would've given Beltran a good chance of winning this fight before Burns last fight, but after seeing that awful performance, I like his chances a lot more.

I wouldn't read a massive amount into that fight. Burns's last opponent was a really bad style match-up for him. Gonzales had an unusually long reach and Burns struggled to land. I don't think that will be an issue with Beltran. I can see this being a really entertaining bout.

Ricky should win this one rather easily. Ricky makes easy work of opponents like Beltran whose style is similar to Rocky Martinez and Michael Katsidis.

Beltran is a much better fighter than Gonzalez. Beltran can be hit but he has a good chin and Burns isn't much of a puncher. Burns was totally outclasses by a untested fighter, reach advantage or not. Burns is a good fighter but nothing special.
