Comments Thread For: Matthysse: Hopefully The Winner Will Get Mayweather

When Lucas Matthysse and Danny Garcia square off on September 14th they will be fighting for more than just titles and the right to be called the best in the division; they will also be fighting for a chance to be the next in line to face Floyd Mayweather.

The stakes are definitely high in this fight for both fighters and it will all be sorted out on the biggest stage either guy has ever been on. Being on such a huge platform is after all the reason this fight was added to this card. The winner - and even the loser -will get maximum exposure and for some casual fans, this will be their first introduction to both fighters. That’s vital in building Mayweather’s next opponent and what better way to familiarize the general audience with them than having them fight on one of the biggest fight cards in recent memory.

There could be an absolutely huge amount of pressure on Floyd to take this fight if Lucas looks dominant on the undercard against Garcia.

He most likely will take the fight. Its the next biggest opponent after Canelo that he could face. The rest at 147 really stand no chance vs him. Unless he wants to take a tune up after Canelo then fight Lucas. I guess he has to balance his fights out so they wont dry up later down the line. After Canelo he has 4 more fights?

I still think Sergio is next and then the Garcia/Matts winner.

I think Sergio is an option as well but at what weight. Does it happen at 154 or 160? Or do they meet in the middle? A fight with Sergio at 154 isn't much of a fight in terms of legacy for Floyd. But will Floyd fight at a higher weight after fighting Canelo at 152? The Matthysse fight is also on the radar. It's the best fight for Floyd if he beats Danny and unifies the 140 belts. Then there is also the Alexander- Khan winner. Not a great fight but solid.

If I had to make a bet: May Khan-Alexander winner Sept. Matthysse-Garcia winner or visa versa. I would rather your scenario play out though.

If by some weird outcome Garcia beats Matthysse and goes onto fight Mayweather, lol, it's gonna look crap on his resume, if Matthysse beats Garcia and goes on to fight Mayweather, and Mayweather wins it's going to look good on his resume

                Strange ol' world.

I think it all depends on how much punishment Floyd takes in this fight. There are tons of options for Floyd though. I still thinks he sticks to the welterweight limit for his final fights so no to Sergio, Lara, Ishe, GGG etc. There's still Khan, Alexander, Bradley, Garcia and Matthyse.

                    "Making weight isn't hard"

But Matthysse comes in at 160+ on fight night!

Is BScene recycling all these interviews and quotes from Matthysse? It looks like it.
