I am not from that era so I could care less about doing too much research I've seen all of them fight but at the end of the day 36 yo Floyd beats a 36 yo Duran from what I've seen of Duran around that age. When I do research I often look at the greats most significant and late career fights, I'm a firm believer in talent when you can still perform at an elite level even at an advanced age like Mayweather I think that says a lot about fighters and from what I've seen of the greats most of them were pretty much washed up at Floyd's age.. and even today's great fighters theres no way Pacquiao will be able to perform like Floyd when he reaches age 36..That means something..

Would have favored Floyd over Duran and Hagler but SRL or Hearn would be difficult to call. I agree that if Floyd was in that era we would 5 instead of 4. Floyd would have been elite any era but the one where they still fought in barns.
But I do agree that there was better competition in Durans era
Oh to dream
Did you honestly say you would favor floyd over hagler.....

SRL and Hearns both beat up floyd,,, he would hang with SRL but would lose a descision...
Hearns puts floyd to sleep after jabbing him into submission,,, nobody ever outboxed hearns,,, a smaller floyd would not do it...
If floyd fought back then he would have had a career like alexis arguello and pryor,,, he would have been really good,, but not the face of boxing or the GOAT like people try and portray him as today....
Hell donald curry, marlon starling, mancini, meldrick taylor, sweet pea, all would have given floyd hell...Comment

Funny, because his actual comments at the time contradict such a claim.
Hagler-Duran was about as close as Mayweather-De La Hoya was - basically, not close at all. Don't confuse a competitive fight with a close one.Last edited by prinzemanspopa; 07-28-2013, 03:31 PM.Comment

He won't even face martinez still at his late age at 150-154 imagine that hell even a young canelo who is coming up at 154. I like pbf i think he would of done solid in that era but would of never been undefeated.Comment

I think Floyd would have had a much different career. Without those 30 million dollar guarantees he probably takes more chances and fights all the top guys instead of cherry picking to protect the 0. Would he be undefeated? Probably not but he might be more respected and have a better legacy. When Floyd retires outside of his die hard fans most people will talk about the fights that he didn't take then his actual work inside the ring.Comment

True. He wouldn't even be P4P cause he would be too busy cherrypicking while the best were fighting the best.

The fact that you describe Duran one of the top 3 lightweights in Boxing History, as just a "tough brawler" will show EVERYBODY who knows anything about boxing on this site exactly what YOU know, and I can tell you it isn't much-except perhaps, in your own mind. Oh yes, and those who think along with you who are likely many (I mean on this site, as I've often complained before) can join you and wallow in your ignorance.I'm tellin ya, man. I watched Duran in his prime, along with Sugar Ray, Hearns, and all the rest. And I've watched Pac and May in this era. I watched Duran get popped by SRL and not be able to get to SRL because SRL boxed him. Floyd is a better defender than SRL so I just don't see it.
I'd rank the Welters all time like this:
1. Floyd - because of his defense, conditioning and chin.
2. SRL - fast, combo puncher and heart of a lion but limited Defense.
3. Hearns - lightning fast, and KO power, but lacked stamina.
4. Duran - tough brawler, but problems with speed and great boxers.
5. Pacman - fast, good power, but would be outclassed by all the guys above him, imo.
Edit: Modern day. Obviously SRR was right up at the top but I can't comment on him because I didn't see him outside of some highlights.
There was no point in reading further.Comment

Dude SRL is on record admitting he cherrypicked Duran in the rematch.Originally posted by prinzemanspopaQuote:
