Khan/Roach was a good combo.. Khan was bit of an ambush fighter.. fighting in spurs kind of like pacquiao.. and lets be honest he had success with it even at world level..

Problem with Khan is his chin/defence.. if he sees the shot or is expecting it.. the chin aint so bad (see maidana) but if he is caught leaping in like he does alot then bam he goes down.

+ he has a weak inside game as seen vs peterson.. who he still beat but got robbed and then robbed again when the result didnt get overturned but whatever..

What i saw with Hunter was a horrible mesh of his old style and trying to box be more slick and it didn't work. Khan should stick with his old style.. sure he is prone to getting KTFO but he had a very good run with roach which gets underated around here (even if you believe he lost to Pete)

Not sure I agree; not at all.

Berto was given sound advice initially. After a slow start (Berto's hallmark) and a poor 1st round, Hunter shouted at him to get behind his jab.

Behind the jab Berto beat up Karass for the best part of 2 rounds before stopping moving and getting tagged again. Then Berto did his shoulder in loading up. Hunter was bailing out a sinking ship after that with his advice.

Khan had horrific defensive problems under Roach. Gym wars [reckless sparring], and offense oriented drills were always a path to disaster against anybody with composure and a punch. Roach gives good advice but he's not an enforcer in the gym, which is what Khan needs. You take the piss under Roach and he just shrugs it off (look at Chavez Jr). Khan needs a trainer that keeps him in line and gets him out of his sloppy habits. Hunter fits that bill IMHO.

As for those complaining that Hunter hasn't fixed Khan in 1 fight... there you go. Rome wasn't built in a day. You need 3+ fights to see a trainers impact.

he trains hard during fight camp but he doesn't train enough because he travels thousands of miles away from his trainer as soon as a fight camp is over. And that criticism was made by Hunter himself during the Khan vs Diaz post-fight conference, he wants Khan to move close to the gym.

He's still gonna eat left hooks, overhand rights as he backs up in a straight line, he's still gonna throw arm punches, still not gonna get under punches...a trainer can't fix him. Khan is stubborn people, lets move on.

I made a thread about this yesterday. Hunter is no good.

The first half of this year hasn't been good for Hunter, at least he still has Ward. I'm still not sure if Hunter is a worse fit for Khan than Roach, but we should have a better idea after the Alexander fight. Roach had nothing left to offer Khan so he needed a change.
