Comments Thread For: ALA Gym's Villamor Commends Melindo and Servania

Macau - ALA Gym head trainer and former world title challenger Edito "Ala" Villamor has commended Milan Melindo and Genesis Servania for their performance in "Fists of Gold II" here at the Cotai Arena on Saturday night.

Villamor said Melindo was winning the fight after the first six rounds but conceded that "he lost the last four" which in the end cost him.

He said the knockdown in round 11 was because "Melindo didn't see the right of Estrada because of the blood that hampered his vision" following a cut under the left eye in round six.

Villamor said they had told Melindo "to watch for the right straight and the jab. He solved the problem of the jab but didn't see the right." [Click Here To Read More]

Melindo was strong and indeed winning in the first 6 rounds but just like most Filipino fighters sickness, he gassed out in the last 6 rounds. He dropped his gloves in the later rounds of which invigorate Estrada’s sharp jabs that cost Melindo that KD him in the 11th round. I think Filipino trainers and coaches should give extra attentions to the stamina and resiliency of fighters because many foreign fighters have good stamina and they are good finishers and not easily distracted and discouraged, and most of all, they could adjust and adopt the fighting styles of their opponents.

Melindo and Servania both showed heart and pretty good chins. I'm questioning Servania's chin just a little it looked like he was pretty hurt before they stopped the dr. stopped the fight. Tomiyama showed he's as game as they come but he's not a world beater or a very big puncher and he put Servania down twice and hurt him again in the last round.

Melindo on the over hand did very well considering the huge step up in class he was taking against Estrada. To me it looked like Melindo's foot work and hand speed was bothering him. That fight should be a good learning experience for Melindo and Estrada.
