Secondly lets look at another angle. Ortiz was given a fight with Floyd by simply beating Berto. Guerrero who had no resume at all at WW was given a fight with Floyd by simply beating Berto. How ridiculous does that look now? Berto is now a gate keeper who earned millions and millions and it was all a facade.

HBO's decision to play hardball with its cash is most welcome especially since it allows more talent to flourish in the televised ranks without breaking its boxing budget to cater for once over-hyped and over-financed Berto's of the world.

I believe the days of easy paychecks are over. If you want to become a high earner you will truly have to deserve it and be willing to fight the best. For much of his early career, Berto fought many opponents who simply didn't belong in the ring with him. When he was finally forced to step up, his lack of quality showed, and HBO's big investment in him backfired.

I don't dare to think about the great fights HBO couldn't afford to put on so that it could cater for Berto and Haymon fighters.

Berto did generate pretty high ratings though. The african american fans don't always attend events but they tune in everytime an elite black fighter is on TV. Berto appeared in some hip hop music videos and walked to the ring with Soulja Boy, he's pretty famous in the AA community. At the end of the day it's all about the ratings.

At 22, his biggest attribute is that he already fought 42 times. That should override any criticism of fighting nobodies and tomato cans. It's one thing to fight tomato cans at a regular pace, having an on average record of 20-0 to 25-0 during a span of years, wasting your 20's away.

And it's another to only be 22 and go the Mexican route. No amateur pedigree so lets fight 40 times before I'm even legally allowed to drink.

Berto has the wrong style attached to his body. Instead of looking up to Floyd Mayweather, he should've studied Mike Tyson's upper body movement. He has the upper body mess to emulate him better than Floyd. Instead of throwing counter punches from awkward positions that could get him injured, look at some of Iron Mike's. He might have become a sensation instead of the powers- to-be forcing him on us.

People don't realize he had some decent opponents before he was signed to gbp and that was when he was in his teen at a time most pros are barely starting their careers. He just beat a guy everyone on here rated as the #1 fighter at jr. Middleweight , it wasn't a dominat victory but he showed great skills in outboxing trout and won a clear fight
