While Victor Postol and Dmytro Kucher, top Ukrainian prospects from the Elite Boxing Promotion’s team, are presently on vacation following their recent fights (a stay-busy win for Postol and a sound upset loss for Kucher), a new breed of Ukrainian prospects was on show yesterday at SportLife club in Kiev, Ukraine.
In the main event, local featherweight Oleg Malinovskiy improved to 9-0, with 2 KOs, following a hard-fought victory over tow-time former Belarussian Olympian Khavazhy Khatsygov. The veteran fighter forced Malinovskiy to take a knee in round one after a huge punch. The prospect beat the count and boxed his way back into the fight, winning every other round handily with a good mixture of pumping jabs and fast combinations. Khatsygov was looking for one big punch but found none and spent too much energy in doing so. He was overwhelmed with Oleg’s activity. Scores were identical across the boards: 78-73 – for the Ukrainian.
