Let's look at Mayweather's past few cards. Against Ghost, the co-main event was Mares/PDL (better than the main event). Against Cotto, the co-main was Canelo/Mosley (worse than the main event). Against Ortiz, the co-main was Morales/Cano (better than the main event). I think Matthysse/Garcia is to ensure that the hardcore fans buy the PPV, and it's does out-shine the main event imo.

We have a winner! Yes, I think that its more about making sure PPV does better this time and to hide the fact people just dfont find Floyd's fights that exciting. UD against carefully picked cherries gets old fast. The last Floyd fight just didnt do well enough. When you know you could have done these two separate and make more money you have to wonder why they put the two best fights in the same events. Giving boxers what they want sounds pretty nice but this is about making money and business.
