I think it was more about doing light contact work, but even when practicing lightly he's so heavy handed that Maravilla "saw the stars", so to speak.
When asked if Lucas is the most heavy handed boxer in the division, Steve Smoger took a second and replied "without a doubt". That says it all right there.

That video was probably what Martinez was referring to about alternating between attack and defense. Martinez was on defense and Matthysse on offence.

if he can hurt maravilla he can hurt floyd, so hopefully that fight happens, if not, matthysse vs pacquiao, although im not sure pacquiao makes it past rios in one piece

Lots of guys can hurt Floyd , that's not the issue its about landing cleanly and then being able to finish the job , that spar was a waltz and so not what a real fight is like , sparring is not a good gauge unless both are going for it and somewhat in shape .

He's saying Lucas hit him with a clean body shot and he was hurt by the body shot. It was one of those that connects and every knows the fighter is in pain, but does not want to show it.
