  • Comments Thread For: Vasyl Lomachenko is Expected to Sign with Top Rank

According to “Vzglyad” (“The Gaze”), a Ukrainian media source, Vasyl Lomachenko is strongly expected to strike a deal with Top Rank by the end of this week, ending the ongoing saga of when the boxer would go pro; a saga which seemed next-to-eternal for some mortals. Presently, Team Lomachenko, led by his father Anatoly, is carefully evaluating every detail of the proposed agreement. No sums were disclosed but sources indicate a figure of $2,000,000 USD as Vasyl’s annual salary.

Lomachenko is a two-time Olympic golde medal winner (2008 as a featherweight and 2012 as a lightweight) and a two-time world champion (2009 and 2011). He widely regarded by many to be the best amateur fighter of his generation. His reported record at unpaid ranks is 396-1, with an only loss coming at the hands of his bitter rival Albert Selimov at the 2007 WC final in Chicago. That loss was well avenged during the Beijing Olympics, where Lomachenko was also awarded the Val Barker trophy.

Pretty good signing from top rank. But it also means he won't be fighting for a belt anytime in the near future

Top Rank needed an infusion of new talent badly. This is a good move by them.

For Lomachenko he benefits because while TR might not put on great undercards they do know how to build stars.

I'm guessing you've never heard of Guillermo Rigondeaux. He's pretty good, you should check him out.

So the Ukrainian media source has picked up on the rumours that have been flying around boxing sites....and?

It was known that he'd been to the US sniffing 'round promoters last month, and from the fights mentioned it looked like Top Rank (and anyway GBP have shown little interest historically in Eastern Euro/ Ex Soviet fighters).

The salary - still under negotiation, as to be expected, but it was always gonna be good. Wonder what the term and conditions are gonna be?

In short, no news at all.

Top ranks been signing a lot of fighters lately. They have a deep roster of "future" prize fighters. Arum might be and a$$hole be he is the best at what he does.

Bob always seems to be ahead of the curve. This is a very good signing. Now they just need to end this petty GB vs. Top Rank feud and let these guys face the best fighters.
