  • Comments Thread For: Thurman Aims To Be Undisputed Champ at Welterweight

Keith “One Time” Thurman is heading into a very important fight this Saturday night as he’s looking to secure his first world title, albeit interim, against undefeated hard punching Diego Chaves at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX.

Thurman was on the recent episode of BoxingScene Radio and spoke about becoming a world champion. The full WBA Welterweight title is held by Adrien Broner who still hasn’t disclosed if he’ll be staying at 147 or dropping back down. Thurman said whether he needs to face Broner or anyone else, he’ll fight whoever in order to secure a championship.

“If that’s what I got to do to get the belt, then that’s what’s going to happen. Like I said, I’m belt hungry. I got many sayings in this game and one of them is ‘I have an 0 and I’m not afraid to let it go’. What that means is I’m willing to fight anybody to be a world champion. I truly want to prove myself in this sport and in this industry. So whoever I have to face to get that strap, I’ll fight them” Thurman would tell BoxingScene Radio. [Click Here To Read More]

Even if there were the political will to make this happen, Thurman's not staying at 147 for long enough to unify the belts IMO, he's just too big. And that's assuming he would actually have the ability to accomplish it, too.

I might have been one of the very few who actually liked his performance against Zaveck, he did everything correctly, his unorthodox movement, power, combination punching...I can't see many fighters handling him.

He's not that big at 147.

I don't see Thurman in the Mayweather sweepstakes, just too unknown and too much of a threat. I like his chances with all other welterweight champions though. They Broner, Alexander and Bradley would all trade with him, Mayweather wouldn't. ONE TIME!

Thurman is an interesting fighter and he has everything, he can box and fight but he will eventually move up he seems big for this weight division but until then he has business to do and what I like about him his willing to fight anyone.

If Thurman's chin gets tested against Chavez and it holds up, he probably beats every welterweight not named mayweather.

sill rough around the edges but w/his strength & punch he'll always b in a bout & his stamina has improved...amazing how's he's gotten this far fighting virtually no 1...

I like Thurman. He throws BOMBS! All he has to do is keep winning in impressive fashion (which should be doable considering his power). Eventually he'll get a fight with a decent known fighter, maybe Maidana, Ortiz, or maybe the winner of Berto/Karass. If he beats that fighter as impressively he'll be right there in the mix.

If he wants Mayweather, he should call out Guerrero. KO Guerrero then everyone will start comparing that fight to the Mayweather/Guerrero fight.
