Matthysse does those things to get you out of your game so that you will brawl.

The one thing that Matthysse does well is that he has good vision while trading with you. Matthysse can't box, and that's just the bottom line no matter what his fans say, but now he is constantly punching which makes up for his lack of pure boxing. His jab is a range finder more than anything.

In terms of his punches he doesn't care where he lands when he fights a decent boxer. He's strong, he comes in good condition now, but if he can't hit you with his straight shots, his shots are almost winging arm punches. And because he has heavy hands, those wild shots sometimes are not seen by his opponent and do land. Against a consummate pro, they will exploit that.

Matthysse also does something that James Toney did very well. He gets back to center ring and never follows you when he tries to trap you on the ropes. He knows how to cut the ring off. He starts his attack center ring pushing you back.

At times he is a decent body puncher when he commits like he did against Soto, but then he can become a head hunter. He's not an inside fighter, but he does want to trade. Matthysse is more fast than slow if you know what I mean in boxing terms. He can be explosive or at times hesitate too much.

The last thing I'll say is that Matthysse now knows how to get in shape for a fight. At one point he never went past 4 rounds for a while. He has to stay consistent with his conditioning He was in good shape for the Judah fight, and looked tired in the Alexander fight-imo.

I'll do Danny Garcia in the next few days, but these are my real observations of Matthysse.
So are you gonna become a Matthysse fan after he KO's Garcia? I mean is there a reason for someone to hate Matthysse as it is? He's a very fan friendly fighter and is willing to fight the best, what more could you ask for?

I am a fan. I'm a fan of his style. I just don't like the overrated props that he gets. These props are not even from his fans either.

          1. He doesn't even attempt to speak English.
          2. He has been hyped to the moon with a resume Danny Garcia wipes his ass with.
          3. He's too one-dimensional to pose a threat to Floyd.

Matthysse has the best Rabbit-punch in boxing right now. Ask peterson.

This. There's not many who catch punches as well as him around his weight classes its kind of "older" school. He has some subtleties to his game and is cagier/craftier than he appears. He also has good timing for a guy that fights how he does. He'll catch and roll with a punch into his own momentum for a punch its nice to see guys catch punches (imo) its a change of pace of the ultra athletic slicksters you tend to see lately.

Him and Danny are similar in the sense teyndont fear incoming punches. Danny will throw with a guy, as does matthysse but Matthysse will parry too and trap you at mid range.

What I like about Matthysse's defense is that he can block shots to the side of his body and head and he can parry with shots thrown at him.

What I don't like is that he can be hit with straight punches. You can go right down the pipe on Matthysse.

Yeah LM fights a lil dirty, but you have to be prepared for everything in that ring.

Gerald McClellan was unlucky to get in the ring with an incompetent ref, and a Benn who fought dirty. Danny better be ready for anything.

Yup. If youre fast enough with reasonable power you could temporarily freeze him like Soto did. But the retaliation as the other guy resets is brutal as Matthysse has shown good vision in realizing when its his time to go. He also seems a lot physically stronger than most guys and he'll initiate a clinch and rough you up.

The thing is I think you need to be a good combination puncher to fight Lucas. Soto did well, but he took too much damage to give his. A guy with good combinations down the pipe like Marquez is who Id favor over Lucas.
