Angel Garcia: 'Danny's going to destroy' Matthysse

The father and trainer of RING junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia vows that No. 1-rated contender Lucas Matthysse will represent "the easiest fight of Danny's career," adding that his undefeated son will "destroy" the Argentine puncher inside of "four or five rounds" when they meet on Showtime Pay Per View on Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"This man is just an opponent, and on Sept. 14 he's still going to be an opponent, and Danny's still going to be the undefeated champion of the world," said trainer Angel Garcia, who was ringside with his son at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City when Matthysse (34-2, 32 knockouts) obliterated IBF 140-pound beltholder Lamont Peterson, dropping him three times on the way to a third-round knockout.

"You just watch. Danny's going to be 27-0, and still the undefeated champion of the world, because Lucas Matthysse is going to get knocked out. If he opens up, he's going to get knocked out. If he's in there longer than four or five rounds, that will be something. If it goes the distance, then it's going to be ugly, because Danny's going to destroy him."

Man, this guy. He is starting which I like because he is going to be in for a real surprise on the 14th. When Danny comes back to the corner after the first round and is telling his dad, "Pops, I've never felt a punch like that, this guy is strong, real strong". I can't wait to see how his dad tries to salvage his confidence in the corner.

There is definitely danger in Garcia and no way even in victory, that I see this being an easy fight. While I do favor Lucas, he has to be wearily of Danny's sneaky counter punches (like the shot he timed Kahn with). Because Lucas is a come forward pressure fighter, people have the notion that he automatically has an iron chin, when in fact I don't ever recall him ever being hit with a "go home" shot as he has been defensively responsible so far. I also remember him being slightly buzzed somewhere in the middle rounds vs Alexander by something like an uppercut ( can't remember exactly what it was, I only seen the fight live back when it happened). I think Danny is a live underdog. He has KO power in both hands, a good chin and speed.

I agree. Danny has great timing too and he's just a consistent ass dude.

I don't see what the big deal is with his pops hyping the fight this way. I mean he can get on peoples nerves (mine included) at times but end of the day can you imagine how boring a guy like Danny would be without his pops to hype **** up for him?

I'm just looking forward to an all out war. I'd prefer Lucas to win but I just can't count Danny out.

Matthyse fans don't have a gameplan for their fighter because he doesn't know how to fight but just throw punches.

Lucas has gotten much more well-rounded since those fights and if he is winning virtually every fight by KO, he must be doing something right. You put Morales and Khan in front Lucas and what do you think happens?

I also remember people like Duran, Leonard, Margarito and Rios being stunned/buzzed. There's a difference between that and actually being hurt. If you never seen him take a go home shot then look at my sig.

Maybe you should start watching more Garcia fights than Matthysse. Garcia when he gets hurt he either clinches or goes into Bradley mode. True story.
