Comments Thread For: Arum Views Estrada-Melindo as Possible Fight of The Year

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes that the WBO/WBA flyweight title fight between mandatory challenger and undefeated Filipino Milan Melindo (29-0, 12 KO’s) and Mexican world champion Juan Francisco Estrada (24-2, 18 KO’s) should be a great fight.

Arum told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard he believes the title showdown at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Macao could be “one of the fights of the year.”

The astute promoter who has brought some of his big fights to Macau, China and will have both eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao and his opponent Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios at ringside for the Melindo-Estrada fight card told the Standard “this is a terrific card, everybody in Macau is very happy. It will be better than the previous one” last April 6 when Estrada won the title from Brian Viloria and Melindo, in an impressive performance, scored a 4th round TKO over tough Tommy Seran of Indonesia. Estrada always comes to fight. So if Melindo tries to bring it I'm sure there will be fireworks. It may not be foty but I'm sure it will be good fight.

Estrada is a really good fighter. Can't wait to see him in the ring again. From what I've seen of Melindo (haven't seen a lot), he will come forward and fight some. Estrada excels against come forward fighters. This should be a good fight.

Arum should also bring into the Macau cards the "legendary" Indonesian flyweight Chris John (48, KO 22) + lost 0)... The most charismatic and undefeated fighter in the sport (Ward let alone).

Chris John vs Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. for the undercard?

this fight is flying under the radar. Estrada is a badass fighter I expect him to win by KO but I know nothing about Melindo other than his good record. Should be a good action bout.
