  • Comments Thread For: Schaefer: Haymon Has No Problem Matching His Fighters

The recent signing of the highly anticipated 140 lb. showdown between Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse has become an instant hit with boxing fans and media. The fight – in which the winner will be universally recognized as the divisional lineal king – was officially confirmed Wednesday afternoon, with the tremendous bonus of it serving as the co-feature to the September 14 pay-per-view headliner between Floyd Mayweather and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the hosting venue for the event, has long ago sold out, and closed-circuit ticket demand is already threatening to exceed availability. That Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions would add such a fight to a card that is already destroying box office records busts one myth that the motives of all involved are strictly financially-driven.

Matthysse wasn't 'his' fighter until very recently. Representing both Al comes out on top regardless of who wins the fight.

Haymon is now doing the right thing because Showtime won't let him otherwise. SHO don't have resources to build up fighters out of tomato cans. Unlike HBO. Bear in mind that Broner's last fight was a HBO left over. Prior to that was the Reese mismatch. Not to mention Canelo's career was built up by HBO.

So the split up has been good for fans.

Well, Al Haymon wasn't a stumbling block... Then who was? Danny's team?

How the hell do you know what Showtime won't let Haymon do? You sound very jealous and bitter of the next man's success. HBO chooses to play promoter instead of staying in its lane and act as a distributor, and its bias is the reason for the split and their loss of boxing talent.

i agree... haymon is forced to do this. And Guerrero vs. quillin who cares, guerrero doesn't bring in big money to him

              Exactly. It's a win-win for Haymon.

Is Al Haymon allowed to do this (Represent both boxers?). Isn't that forbidden under the Mohammed Ali law or something?

Haymon Has No Problem Matching His Fighters... as long as he makes a TON of money.

Danny didnt want this fight. That was obvious. Thankfuly the pressure was big enough, and they got him the kind of money he (and Al Haymon) cant say no to.
Still, only a fool thinks Danny wanted this fight. Just like Alusegun, he was ducking Matthysse.
