Spanish jr. middleweight veteran Ruben Varon, the EBU's mandatory challenger at his weight, has today been voted out by the EBU council following his loss to journeyman Rafael Chiruta this past weekend. That fight was as previously reported fought at middleweight and thus the loss doesn´t remove a fighter automatically from his position at a lower weight.

However, as the EBU points out it was a bad loss against a fighter with a poor recored.

I read a few months ago Ricky Hatton stated In an interview that Rabchenko will have a mandatory fight of his EBU title against Varon and when/if he wins he becomes the official #1 mandatory to Canelo and will come to America to take that fight. This was before Canelo-Maywearher was announced and that's not word for word but I believe it was something along those lines
