Comments Thread For: Roberto Duran Advises Canelo To Maul Floyd Mayweather

Legendary boxer Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran has advised WBC/WBA 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) to maul Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Duran told Nacion the proper stategy that he would use if he was going up against Mayweather, stating that most fighters make a huge error by always trying to land shots on Canelo's head.

Alvarez isn't fast enough by hand or foot to maul Floyd
his size advantage will actually be his downfall in this fight
theoretically, Duran is right with this advice
but Alvarez doesn't have the speed or stamina to implement it
he can't flow fast enough or work at a rapid enough pace for it
Alvarez will struggle to even touch Floyd at all in this

It's not like no one has ever attempted to maul Floyd and punch him all over (even DLH tried) It's just that everyone who does always ends up getting countered and quickly realize that Floyd punches do have some sting on them, primarily because you don't see them coming.....

I would love to see Floyd get mauled like a small little animal. Like a lion ripping up a put bull that thinks he's bad ass. Let's see what happens.

Size is not going to be a factor at all because Canelo and Floyd are the same height and Canelo also wants to come into the ring lighter around 165 not 172

Duran is right. That is the best way to attack Floyd. Canelo doesn't fight like that though. If Canelo can add that style to his repertoire, he will have become a complete fighter. That fighter would give Floyd complete trouble. Canelo is still skilled enough to compete with Floyd, it's just that to beat Floyd you have to be able to beat him inside and out...and I don't think that Canelo can fight inside.

He does have the speed. Because of him being a bulky mexican, people put him in the class of a slow brawler. But Alvarez is very very fast. Im not saying that he will win, but he is faster than Shane. To me, he throws those mortal combat punches like Pac. But Pac threw so many punches, that it made his speed stick out more. Canelo only throws a few shots, so it blinds people from seeing how fast he's really coming to the game.
