Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: No Limit to Where Omar Figueroa Can Go

Oscar De La Hoya believes that lightweight Omar Figueroa has a bright future ahead of him.

The 23-year-old prospect will be appearing on Showtime on July 27 as part of the network’s tripleheader. Figueroa will face Nihito Arakawa for the World Boxing Council’s interim title at 135 pounds. The bout will be on the undercard to Andre Berto vs. Jesus Soto Karass.

“Omar Figueroa is a guy who, every fight, every opponent we put him in against, he’s getting better and better,” said De La Hoya on a July 16 media conference call. “He’s passing the tests with flying colors, and now it’s time to step it up and step it up big time. July 27 is not going to be an easy night for him.” [Click Here To Read More]

This kid is from my hometown and even before signing to golden boy I never saw anything special in him...I wish him nothing but the best but I just don't see anything in him that will elevate him past hype status

He still has a lot to prove to be honest but I like what I have seen so far.

I'm from Brownsville, Texas. I saw him in a good sparring session with Emanuel Augustus here at the Boys & Girls Club, but I also saw Figueroa get whooped by a local pro whose record is 0-7.

He's still young and his style is raw but from what I have seen so far he has a real solid chin so with that chin and awkward none relentless pressure he will be problems for whoever he is facing no matter what caliber fighter they are.

Man, when even the person writing the article has to go on boxrec just to find out who the **** you are you are most definitely a TOMATO CAN.
