Comments Thread For: Miguel Vazquez-Ammeth Diaz II Purse Bid Won By Zanfer

Zanfer Promotions was the sole bidder at IBF's purse bid earlier today in New Jersey, securing the rights to the fight between International Boxing Federation champion Miguel "Puppet" Vazquez (33-3, 13KOs) and mandatory challenger Ammeth Diaz (32-11, 23KOs). Vazquez previously decisioned Diaz over twelve rounds in January 2012 in Mexico. Zanfer bid $50,000 with 75% going to the champion.

In his last fight, Diaz won by knockout in the seventh round over British contender Martin Gethin in an IBF final eliminator. Vazquez fought last December in Las Vegas, where he successfully defended his title with a twelve round unanimous decision over unbeaten Mercito Gesta.

It's a fair reflection, to be honest. Since losing to Marquez, Diaz has beaten an 8-6-2 fighter & a boxer not even in the top five in the UK.

Marquez is highly skilled but his style won't win too many fans in Mexico/US. He should do half a dozen fights in Europe where his attributes would be appreciated.

Still though, it sucks to be a champion and top of your division... and getting paid like that.
Sucks that the Burns fight fell through too.
He should try and fight another one of Arum's fighters because I know he got a good purse from fighting Gesta

Agreed. I still think he should follow the Winky Wright route. Or even Sergio Martinez. They both built up a fanbase in Europe prior to making it big in the US.

Why is the IBF making Miguel Vazquez fight a 32-11 that he has already beat?

I think the Diaz Gethrin fight was an eliminator.

He should do whatever's best for him...doesn't seem like he's getting paid in Mexico. He should shoot for another unification with Burns as that's the big money fight for him right now.
