Comments Thread For: Team Provodnikov: Alvarado Still Needs To Prove Himself

Earlier this week Ruslan Provodnikov's promoter Artie Pelullo told BoxingScene's Rick Reeno that they had reached an agreement with Top Rank and HBO to face WBO interim junior welterweight champion Mike Alvarado in his hometown of Denver, CO on October 19th. While Provodnikov has agreed to the fight, Alvarado's manager Henry Delgado told The Denver Post that he still doesn't know who Alvarado will face next and will look for the best possible deal for his fighter.

Alvarado may have 'won' the second fight with Rios but Rios clearly did more physical damage in that fight.

Lookin at both fighters last match its clear to say they both proved themselves but alvarodo has proven himself a lil more cuz not only did he take the belt back he took it back from the guy who took it from him and did it clearly by making adjustments.
Prov lost (even tho i had it a draw) he still needs to prove he can win against the champ clearly.

Prov made more fans in one fight than Alvarado did with both of his rios fights...outside of having the belt what does Alvarado really have in his favor? Folks forget a bruiser is usually the bigger draw.

That's BS. Mike is clearly more known with a Denver fan-base. Prescott, Rios twice. He has more exposure and has the title. They're both Bruiser's.

Alvarado Has A Win & A Loss Against Rios, Who Isn't The Smartest Fighter

Listen, Rios will find out against Pacquiao, he's not ready for prime time. He will get stopped inside 5 rounds by Pacquiao. Provo beat the living crap out of a 147lb Tim Bradley and got screwed from the decision. Had they let that title change hands, Provo would be fighting Marquez this time around. Rios has impressed NOBODY yet, leads with his chin, throwing wild hooks often missing the mark, and getting KO'd by Pac will help his bank account, but not his future. Provo is a "Welterweight version" of Gennady at Middleweight, very heavy handed, can stretch you out with either hand, in great shape, and flat comes to fight. He had Bradley headed to the hospital for dizziness, concussion concerns, and Bradley humbling talked for weeks about the beating he took. If Alvarado thinks there's another fight out there that makes more sense, have at it, but you won't look credible dodging Provodnikov.

The way these guys are talking, you'd think they're both P4P fighters, when in fact they're both mid to lower top 10 guys in their own division. Just fight already
