Interviewer:"I talked to William Joppy before his last fight and he brought up an issue that Trinidad's people wrapped Tito's hand illegally and that is why he lost. He said that your people caught Trinidad illegally wrapping his hands. Can you tell us what happened?

Bouie Fisher: I tell you, Ike. They have been getting away with that for a long time. I sent my people to Trinidad's locker room to make sure everything was right. When they got there they came back to me and told me that Trinidad's left hand was wrapped before they got there. So, I had to go over to his dressing room myself, this is my business and I have been doing it for over 50 years. When I got there I told them to unwrap the hand and do it over because we need to see the hand being wrapped. They refused to unwrap the hands so I told them I guess the fight will not happen then, we can reschedule to another date. The officials came in and said we don't have time to do this over. I told them, well we must do this right or no fight. They know the rules, no tape on the skin or tape on the ankle. His left hand was heavy just like your camera. Guess what, the officials then said you can go and wrap Bernard hands anyway you want. Trinidad's father and his people didn't want to make the change because they knew they cheated and they tried to cover it up by asking me to wrap Bernard's hands anyway we wish. I wasn't going for that, we have to do this right, they raised hell like you couldn't believe. I said you can do it your way, but there will be no fight if you don't do it right. They said we are going to leave it as it is, so I told them we can reschedule the fight untill next week. They didn't want to do that. This is why we had a delay coming out. When they saw Bernard they tried to ask us to take off just a little tape, but they had a half roll of tape on Trinidad's left hand. This is why people say he has a good left hook. David Reid paid a big price, Trinidad took away the fighter in him. David Reids people were trying to schedule a fight with Bernard and it could have happened if Reid would have won his last fight. I'm glad it never happened."

Honestly i dont put too much into trinidad and the wraps..... It was just a technicality that hopkins camp called him on it,,,
Trinidad did the same thing in all his fights, yet oscar, vargas, joppy, none of these teams spotted anything wrong,,, They all watched him get his hands wrapped and nobody ever complained,,,
Hopkins was the only one... It was probably just a hopkins mind game with tito...

This is jus a hate thread started by a Mexican to hate on a Puerto Rican because the only one who was actually caught and suspended was cheating ass margarito. All Tito did was tape the tape to the skin,, if it was really that bad Tito would have been suspended. All they did was get into titos head. Bernard's whole plan was to rattle Tito before the fight that's why he threw a bag of rice and beans at Tito and stomped the Puerto Rican flag. It's jus tacktics. Tito was no cheater. Now Bernard is a cheater and dirty fighter,, he headbutted Tito about 50 times in that fight

That is hearing one side of the story only. The rules of boxing say the other side is always supposed to witness a fighter's hands being wrapped as well as the officials. So if Trinidad had been cheating all those years then only this guy caught him and all the teams of the other guys he fought before Hopkins were so ****** they let him cheat right before their eyes???? Also the way he was wrapping his hands for Hopkins is legal in almost all other places except New York which has different rules.The purpose of the tape is to protect the fighter's hands and it does not add to the fighter's punching power. It's tape, not concrete. As for his punching power disappearing after the Hopkins fight that is just pure BS. He KOed Mayorga after the Hopkins fight. The same Mayorga that laughed at Vernon Forrest's best punches. The same Mayorga that had never even been hurt by the best punchers before he fought Trinidad. Mayorga has always said to this day that Trinidad was by far the hardest puncher he ever fought. Mayorga's chin was never as good after the Trinidad fight. Trinidad also KOed former middleweight champion Cherifi in 4 rounds after the Hopkins fight. Cherifi said Trinidad was the hardest, fastest puncher he ever fought. The people that want to hate and discredit Trinidad will always believe he was a cheat and they can believe what they want but I know he was a great fighter and he never cheated.

You guys still talk that crap. margarito did NOT have plaster. The "item' was described by the very first Commissioner who saw it and handled it. He said it was a typical used gauze pad and "it had a few slightly stiffer spots as if it had been wet'". That was IT...

The Commission ruled that Margarito was NOT GUILTY of knowing about the used gauze pad but he was penalised "because you are the head of your team......"

i read all the legal documents about this case, and it was clear that Margarito himself was absolved. And that was why Arum, a brilliant lawyer himself, stood with Margarito, and didn't agree with the way Cotto (one of his two top fighters) was being pushed by trouble-makers about his loss to Margarito.
