Comments Thread For: Eddie Hearn Has High Expectations For Luke Campbell

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes Olympic hero Luke Campbell has all the hallmarks to become the complete package as he prepares to make his professional debut tonight.

Almost 12 months on from taking bantamweight gold in London, Campbell returns to the ring at Hull Kingston Rovers' MS3 Craven Park ground for a six-round clash against Andy Harris which will be his first in the full-time ranks.

Known not only for his exploits at the Games but also his subsequent appearance on 'Dancing on Ice', the 25-year-old fits the bill of the modern-day sporting celebrity and in keeping with that is headlining his own show dubbed as 'The Homecoming'.

It is very rare that a boxer tops the card on his debut, with Campbell's also being Hearn's first-ever outdoor show, but the promoter has no doubt that there will be many more occasions ahead for his man.

"We are talking about the most successful amateur boxer ever," he said.

"There is a lot of weight on his shoulders but he's such a talented fighter and, as a commercial entity and commercial brand, he is exactly what we are looking for in boxing."

Luke Campbell has a lot of potential and has commercial appeal but it has been repeatedly said by commentators that his style is not suited to the pro ranks.

Maybe, but he's put on some bulk, won the gold at bantam but is now fighting a light-welter journeyman. He should have a good boxing brain and be able to make the switch; he's been a mover in the ams but not Mark Breland level of pure amateurism either
