Duh. Merchant has always called for more brawling and violence in boxing. He'd rather see two drunks clubbing each other out in a bar fight than top athletes like Rigo inside a prize ring. We know.

lol wtf is this a federal job, athletes who partipiate in sports are considered independent contractors so they have to get their own health care, retirement, etc etc, this is why alot of them get into tax problems cause they get that check untaxed its on them to report that money and pay the taxes on it.Comment

boxing is not a marathon...inside the ring, the fighters are expected to outbox each other, not to outrun the other... if you want the fighters to outrun each other, then you might mistaken boxing for a marathon..Comment

Lol, what a tard acting like he's some kind of Bert Sugar or something. You can't answer my argument because you are ******ed and trying to make this into a natiolalistic argument when it has nothing to do with what I posted.
You are a fool who can't defend the dumb **** that you post.Comment

That's the thing, of course we all understand their decisions from a business point of view but this is the same network with commentators who accuse boxers of cherry picking. You can't have it both way, the network is trying to make money by cherry picking their way just like the boxers they accuse.Comment

merchant is realistic.
i don't always agree with him, but he understands HBO's objective.
a 122 lber with a completely negative style and no fanbase isn't good for business. i know you guys like rigondeaux, but that doesn't mean anything beyond the implications it has for HBO financially.
hell, a lot of the NSBers stream fights and don't even buy hbo. if you're in that boat you cannot complain.Comment

luckily hbo has a competitor network.
HBO ditching rigondeaux will drive the price for his fights down and showtime may very well pick him up and capitalize on the opportunity.Comment
