Who will have the better career?

    Miguel Cotto or Lucas Matthysse

Cotto was supported better early in his career, and beat better talent

It's no comparison right now who's had the better career, but when Matthysse finally retires (which could happen in 5-6 years given his age), do you think he'll surpass Cotto as a more accomplished fighter

Do you see a higher upside in Lucas vs Miguel? Miguel is largely considered a one handed fighter due to being a converted southpaw, whereas Lucas fights equally well with both hands and has shown better stamina late in fights

Cotto KO'd Judah, was a more complete fighter, with a higher workrate and more accurate hands. I doubt Matthysse would have made round 12 with Pac or Mosley.

Can't imagine Matthysse having a better career than Cotto unless he somehow beats Mayweather and goes on to beat a couple more names at welterweight. Chances of that are small, obviously.

If Matthysse beats Mayweather he should go ahead of Cotto straight away, no questions asked.

Voted for Cotto solely for the fact that he's ahead RIGHT NOW, but it's way too early to tell, and while I think Lucas has more than enough potential to surpass a legacy of Cottos caliber, I have to give the nod to the one whos legacy is ahead, since it's on the other fighters destiny to surpass it, and there's no guarantee he will get the fights he needs to accomplish that.

But as far as potential goes, I absolutely think WARtthysse can surpass him and might beat Cotto if they faced each other in their primes.

if you voted Cotto because his career is better right now, yet admit Matthysse could definitely end up with the better overall career then you just voted for the wrong option or shouldn't have voted

I'm a huge fan of both guys but I'll have to be honest in saying I see more in Lucas' game overall than Miguel's. Cotto cannot fight going backwards, and also has problems with movement, he also can quickly deviate from a gameplan if a fight starts getting away from him

To the poster mentioning Cotto stopping Judah, I could argue that at that point in their careers, Cotto was a more confident, seasoned fighter than Lucas when he fought Zab. Zab played spoiler for much of that fight, and Lucas fought hesitant and perhaps a bit nervous due to it being the biggest fight of his career up to that point.

I have no doubt that Lucas stops Zab right now

Cotto, but it might not be as much as I envision right now. Matthysse needs that big PPV fight and that's Floyd for him.

If Garcia shows up to fight then Matthysse gets and Mayweather than Lucas is better than Cotto.

I explained why I voted that way. I don't think Lucas will because as of right now we don't know farther than his next fight whereas Cotto probably doesn't have many left, and I mentioned how I felt Lucas has the potential.

That way I get credit either way. win/win for LoadedWraps.
